About Changing Faces Permanent makeup should enhance your face — not overpower it. I’m Rebecca Jackson, founder of Changing Faces, and I’ve worked within the beauty and makeup industry for more than 25 years. I began specialising in permanent makeup in 2013, and over those years the industry has changed enormously. Techniques are softer, equipment has developed, pigments have evolved and clients are far more educated about the options available to them. My work has evolved with it. For me, permanent makeup has never been about creating the same brow, lip or eyeliner on every client. Faces aren't identical, lifestyles aren't identical, and neither are people's reasons for choosing cosmetic tattooing. My job is to understand the person sitting in front of me first. Natural, bespoke permanent makeup One of the most common things clients tell me during consultations is: “I want it to look natural.” And that is very much my approach. Permanent makeup should work with your existing features. Some clients have very little eyebrow hair and want realistic hairstrokes. Others have plenty of brow hair but need more structure or definition. Some people love a softly powdered makeup effect, while others want something almost undetectable. That's why I offer several different eyebrow techniques including nano and hairstroke brows, combination techniques and powder brows. Rather than deciding on a technique before I’ve even seen somebody's face, we discuss their skin, natural hair growth, colouring, makeup style and expectations before deciding what will suit them best. More than brows Although brows are a huge part of my work, Changing Faces offers a complete range of permanent makeup treatments. Lip blush can enhance the natural lip border, restore colour that has faded over time and create a fresher, more defined appearance without looking like heavy lipstick. I offer both softer sheer effects and more saturated velvet-style lip blush depending on the result the client wants. Permanent eyeliner ranges from subtle lash enhancement, which gives the impression of darker and fuller lashes, through to classic eyeliner, wings and shaded liner for clients who prefer something more defined. I also offer permanent freckles and individual beauty spots for clients wanting those finishing touches. Correction and removal are just as important One area I’m particularly passionate about is permanent makeup correction and removal. Permanent makeup trends have changed considerably over the years, and unfortunately not everybody arrives with work they are happy with. Some brows may have become too dark, changed colour or simply no longer suit the client's face or personal style. Rather than automatically adding more pigment on top, I believe in looking at what is already present and deciding whether removal or lightening would produce a better long-term result. I offer both Botched Ink saline removal and AW3 Q-Switch laser removal, which means I’m able to assess each individual case rather than relying on one solution for everybody. Sometimes the best permanent makeup treatment starts by removing some of the old permanent makeup first. Being able to take somebody through the whole process;removal, healing, redesigning and eventually creating a softer new result — is an incredibly rewarding part of my work. Experience matters Permanent makeup sits in an unusual place between beauty, artistry and technical skill. You are working with somebody's face, so trust is incredibly important. After more than a decade specialising in PMU, I've worked on a huge variety of clients, skin types, previous treatments and corrections. But experience doesn't mean you stop learning. In fact, I believe the opposite. I continue to invest in education, equipment and techniques because this industry evolves constantly. I tend to enter industry awards only at points when I feel I have genuinely progressed as an artist, rather than simply entering every year. In 2026 I was incredibly proud to win Best Brow Master PMU and SPMU Artist of the Year at the Southwest Beauty & Aesthetics Awards. I was also recognised nationally within the HBA Top 100, which was particularly special after more than a decade of building my permanent makeup career. The awards are lovely recognition, but for me their real value is knowing that the work behind them represents years of learning and improvement. A personal approach Changing Faces is deliberately a personal business. Clients see me from their consultation through to treatment, healing and follow-up. Permanent makeup is not something I believe should be rushed. We talk through shape, colour, expectations and what happens during the healing process before beginning. For new permanent makeup clients especially, it can feel like a big decision. Being nervous is completely normal. My role isn't to persuade somebody into a treatment they aren't comfortable with. It is to give them enough information to decide whether it is right for them. Many of my clients return year after year for their colour boosts, and that ongoing relationship is one of the things I value most about my business. Local and independent Changing Faces is an independent Devon business. After many years working within salons and studios, the business is entering an exciting new stage. I offer weekday appointments from my private studio in Ottery St Mary, giving clients a quieter and more personal appointment environment with the added benefit of free parking. Along with selected Saturday appointments in Exeter, so clients who prefer the city location will still have that option. This move allows me to create a working environment that reflects the way my business has evolved: professional but relaxed, highly experienced but personal. Who comes to Changing Faces? There really isn't one typical permanent makeup client. I see busy mums and business owners who want to save time in the morning. I work with women who have lost eyebrow definition as they've got older. Some clients struggle to apply eyeliner because of eyesight or dexterity. Others simply love makeup and want their features to look more defined every day. I also see clients who have had permanent makeup elsewhere and want help correcting or removing it. The reason might be different, but the goal is generally the same: to feel confident while still feeling like yourself. And ultimately, that's what Changing Faces is about. Not changing somebody into somebody else. Just using experience, artistry and careful technique to enhance what is already there.
